애플의 "앱 외의 방법(이메일)로 결제를 할 수 있는 방법을 안내하는 것을 허용한다"는 것에 대해

1. 앱공정성 연대(CAF)는 입장문을 통해 "이는 여전히 앱 개발자가 앱 내에서 더 싼 가격으로 다른 결제 옵션을 제공하는 것은 금지하는 조치로, 애플이 앱 마켓의 완전한 통제를 유지하고 있는 것이며 양보라고 볼 수도 없다"고 했습니다.

2. 민주당 상원의원 리처드 블루먼솔(Richard Blumenthal)은 애플의 이번 합의안이 "나와 블랙번의 오픈 앱 마켓 법이 다루려고 하고 있는, 마켓에 퍼져있는 부당한 행위를 바로잡지 못한다"라고 하였습니다.

BLUMENTHAL STATEMENT ON APPLE ALLOWING DEVELOPERS

TO ACCEPT PAYMENT OUTSIDE THE APP STORE

[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), lead sponsor of the Open App Markets Act, released the following statement after reports that Apple would let developers accept payment outside the App Store:

“Apple’s concession is a powerful sign that Apple and Google’s stranglehold over app store markets is purely self-serving. These Big Tech giants thought they could get away with squashing competition to pocket hefty windfalls—all while insisting their ironclad grip on app markets serves the interests of consumers or developers. This marks a significant step forward, but does not rectify the full and vivid range of market abuses and practices still widespread across app markets that my and Senator Blackburn’s Open App Markets Act would address. Today’s move only adds to the momentum and further exposes rampant anticompetitive abuses in the app markets. The fox guarding the hen house status quo will remain until there are clear and enforceable rules for Apple and Google to play by. I look forward to advancing the Open App Markets Act when the Senate reconvenes this fall.”

Blumenthal and U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) introduced the Open App Markets Actearlier this month. The legislation would set fair, clear, and enforceable rules to protect competition and strengthen consumer protections within the app market.
